SAGE Leadership Training '08

To enhance the leadership skills of the Students’ Alliance for Good Education (SAGE) Officers and Committee Heads and Members, a leadership training was held last June 7, 2008 at the classroom of III-Thomas.

Mr. Edgar Sarmiento and Mrs. Susan Subang, who are the present SAGE moderators for High School and Elementary respectively, organized this training for the incoming SAGE members.

Three speakers were invited to share their thoughts and ideas about leadership. They were Atty. Arnold Martinez, Mr. Michael Delima and Mr. JC Garcia.

First, Atty. Arnold Martinez, an Associate Solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General, imparted his knowledge about leadership. He talked about the fundamentals of becoming a leader and the importance of communication between the leaders and members. He also talked about the qualities that an ideal leader must possess. Additionally, he gave an activity that enhances creativity, brainstorming and teamwork.

At around 3 in the afternoon, Mr. Delima, a Marian alumnus and former SAGE President (Batch 2005-2006) who presently studies at St. Paul College taking AB Advertising, shared his personal experiences when he was a student in our alma mater. “Just do you own thing,” he emphasized while he was sharing his experiences.

Thereafter, Mr. Garcia, another Marian alumnus and former SAGE President (Batch 2003-2004) who currently works at the Stock Exchange, also shared his personal experiences in Imma. He put emphasis on the essence of joining SAGE and becoming leaders.

Indeed, this training was beneficial to all SAGE members, both officers and committee members. This served as a guide to them to help them start the school year right.
